ok, i admit it: i don’t really enjoy christmas anymore. if it weren’t for cody bear…i may actually be a little bit sad during the holidays.

i know its not just me, as i am doing my best to be cheery (and sometimes it is actually easy this year….must be the new diet?) but so many people are miserable lately.

and i also must admit: christmas just isn’t the same as an adult. i remember the first year i sort of overslept christmas morning. my parents woke up first. i thought… “what is happening to me????”

enter the dog…

he suckered me into that santa rattle a couple weeks ago. he HAD to have it. and it made him wag so much i HAD to buy it. note….he still cherishes it. i love shopping for him because i know he will appreciate it. unlike people in my life, who buy whatever they want and would probably never use a gift card i gave them. or throwing money away to buy the obligatory secret santa item.

his favorites: lobsters, crabs, and an octopus. he doesn’t even understand the common theme. things he can shake and pretend to kill really make him happy, while hard rubbery toys that make no sounds bore him. he has a few environmentally friendly toys: those are fun for a while, but they don’t squeak, so….why bother?

and it is NOT just me…

typically, when we go home for christmas, there are more presents under the tree for cody bear than there are for any of the people. his favorite gift is the home made venison jerky from his human uncle .(yes, when his human uncle shot the deer his first thought was, “cody bear will be happy.”)

is it worth it?

yes! i will spend money on him that i could use for petrol, or buy gifts for coworkers, or some such silliness, but….

when i’m old and laying in my bed at the county nursing home, i won’t remember my debit pin number, and i won’t care that my credit rating never reached its full potential. but i WILL remember every wag, and every look that says “you freakin’ love me cuz i am so CUTE!” and i will be able to remember each doggie toy, too, probably.
probably.

So much of this made me laaaaugh! I just bought a heapin’ helpin’ o’ cat comforts today myself.

Your dog is a lucky dog to have someone love him like you do. Just look forward to playing with him and his christmas gifts, and try not to let other stuff get to you.

Especially, don’t worry too much about the county nursing home. Nowadays, they have visiting dogs to come and play with the old folks. Better have some doggie toys ready then, too.

well,….i actually think i’m decades away from the nursing home. (if i play the game of life right)

good point though: when i DO move into assisted living, i can’t wait to see the nurses face when she sees my stash of plush squeaky toys!

There is nothing like the joy of finding that perfect squeeky toy and then taking it home to your dog.

Wow, guess what! My owner told me his father makes venison jerky every year too! I have never had it but he says it is very good. Maybe I will get to try this year.

My dad shot a deer in November, too. Maybe I can get him to make some jerky for me! I’m with Cody Bear on the toys, soft =, plush, squeeky all the way!
