i just got this in an email from mindy’s mom! (to catch you up, we have a friend whose dog has severe kidney damage due to chicken jerky from china. you can catch the news in past posts!)
“We took Mindy to her vet apt. this morning. She gained 1.7 pounds since last
weeks visit. She is now up to 55.6 pounds! When we first brought her in 2 weeks
ago she was 52.4 pounds. She was also playful with Maggie and Barney again this
morning. She has been putting Maggie in her place =) The vet recommended
putting her on a raw food diet, so we went to the feed store and bought different
flavors of their frozen raw food. It’s in the fridge defrosting and we will see
if she eats any tonight. Hope today is going good for you!”
great news, huh!?

(The Aged went nuts over raw chicken patties. I, however, had a very hard time with them.)
Comment by TheAgedCat May 24, 2008 @ 3:48 pmPS re me & raw chicken patties — handling them, I shoulda said. They were too disgusting to want to taste them, anyway.
(note to self, do not comment before coffee kicks in)
Comment by TheAgedCat May 24, 2008 @ 3:50 pmPS re extended italics — just goes to illustrate that note to self re comments before caffeine!
(I better go get my 2nd cup)
Comment by TheAgedCat May 24, 2008 @ 3:51 pmI have been trying to find people who’ve had problems this year -2008– with chicken jerky. I purchased the COSTCO jerky and one of my dogs wound up in the specialist vet hospital here in Charlotte, NC over memorial day weekend. He was really sick and I had no idea that chicken jerky had been recalled. I always feed holistic food and knew about the recall but didn’t know about the jerky because I don’t usually buy treats. When I came home after leaving him at the hospital I looked it up on the internet and was shocked: he had the same symptoms as the dogs during the recall i.e., vomiting bile, severe diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite and not drinking water. Prior to that he was drinking more water than usual. COSTCO said no one else has complained and is taking no responsibility so I am trying to find a place to test the treats.

My dog became ill August 2008 as a result of Chicken Jerky Treats sold at Costco, made in China. She is the third dog down on the web site above. “Nikita” a siberian husky. She just turned 14 on December 10th. I am so lucky I didn’t loose her however vet costs were high.
