hi everyone.  serious email today:

this is mindy, who is currently in the hospital fighting to get the toxins from tainted food out of her system….

mindy’s parents have been careful to feed her top quality organic chow, but unfortunately distributors did  not take the pet food scare seriously, and costco is still selling their chicken strips.  mindy has eaten great food, and who would have thought chicken strips with just one ingredient could be bad?  we’ve researched it on line and there are scads of folks whose pets have suffered or passed on because of these strips.  a couple people only feed home made food and these strips, so it has to be the strips.

she is fighting to keep her kidney’s going, her vet team is working so hard to help her and her parents are struggling with this.

PLEASE STOP FEEDING CHICKEN JERKY STRIPS FROM COSTCO TO YOUR DOGS.  IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE THESE, PLEASE TELL THEM.

please also keep mindy and her parents in your thoughts.

again, cody bear has asked the spirits for some horoscopes for his dog friends….

taurus, soon you will encounter something that seems new, scary, or possibly bigger than you.  be brave.  trust yourself and you will be rewarded.  also, be aware of screen doors or sliding glass doors and save yourself the embarrassment.

gemini, are you’re ears perked? they should be.  people are talking about you. you’ve become a very good dog! also, try not to lick your paws.

cancer, you may be gaining a new family member or young playmate. it’s time to step up with all your paws, for you will soon be a role model.  also, try a new bandana for a splash of color.

anyway…i did something drastic tonight:  i filled out an online application for a border collie puppy.  i want one AND i think cody bear has been sort of lonely lately. besides….

he’s been taking himself too seriously lately.

we’ll see.  i’m not rolling in the dough.

capricorn, today you will sniff the butt of a dog you thought you may never encounter again. finish all your kibble, there may be a special treat later.

leo, health is a concern today. a possible thorn in the paw, or a small bruised gum from exuberant bone chewing. rest and gentle play or slow walks are best for you.

aries, you may be feeling a little grumbly today, but don’t worry, this will pass by tomorrow. try to keep the snapping and growling to a minimum.

libra, you are very sensitive, but don’t take it personally if someone growls at you. they are probably an aries.

wishing to experience the sites and smells of america, checkers and cody bear thought it was high time to embark on a series of road trips. equipped with no technology other than checkers’ juice phone, armed with their superior sense of smell, these young, luggage free and very cunning dogs set out to tour the country in short treks, arriving home every night just in time for kibble!

since the new x-files movie is coming out soon, they thought they would sniff their way through roswell, nm to see if they could get some background on aliens….

probably the less said about their visit to the museum the better.  the aliens smelled funny and ….imagine what one of those giant martian heads look like to a little corgi.

to sum it up, they had a great time at the crash down diner.  delicious fries with gravy! they did meet some nice folks in roswell.  a woman named marilyn gave them each a bum scratch and some carrot muffins.  another lady, dorothy, pointed them in the right direction when their bellies started grumbling and it was time to make for home.

where to next?  we’ll have to wait and see…

having lived here for 3 years, cody bear has never escaped the back yard. until recently. twice in just over a week. (note: my little guy is in doors when i am gone) the task force assembled immediately following fence break number two. task force’s objective? to fix fence if needed and to determine WHY these breakouts were occurring. breakouts were from an area in the wire fencing off the alley; fence between my large back yard and a vacant lot of scrub.

the cody bear safety task force fixed the fence and determined the following: (note: evidence verified by local police force!)

1. original chicken wire reinforcing fence had been pulled back not by a dog paw or muzzle, but something that left a kink or two in the wire.

2. someone had been tempting cody from other side of fence with rawhide chew bone (this is most certainly not cody bear’s bone. because of his gastroparesis he is not allowed under any circumstances to eat chews of any kind)

3. recently (between first and second breakout) an individual had been parking it in that spot and smoking numerous cherry flavored cigarillos.

4. earlier incident of cody bear throwing up chicken bones when no garbage was found in back yard and i do not eat meat could be related.

look at how cute my little guy is! naturally i want to keep him safe!

local law enforcement (mind you i have an innate and irrational fear of cops) were SUPER helpful, nice, and COMEDIC. i have never met a wise-ass like this one! i think it helped assuage my fear having a stand up comic in a cop suit. we will never know what this person was up to, only that he will be unable to continue doing it. could have just been feeding my dear sweet dog to keep him from barking while he does some shady business. could be an innocent animal lover trying to befriend my dog but may end up with a tobacco related illness.

the police believes creepy neighbor (CN) is, in fact, creepy, but that he probably isn’t the droid we’re looking for. oops, i mean the guy we’re looking for….

the task force, along with helpful officer and caring landlord, have already begun deterrents and we’re feeling very, very safe now…..(add twilight theme music….JUST KIDDING)
