…the fastest bear is a cody bear, of course.

morning all!

i parked myself in one spot in the back yard and just took pictures of cody bear running by me this morning.

the entire time some little dog was yelping like a freak a couple houses away.  i think he was cheering cody bear on or antagonizing him, because it just made the bear child run faster…

ok, now i need to wrangle him in and get ready for work.

oh, let’s face it….i can only be wordless for so long on wednesdays.

so, here is cody bear on one of our stops yesterday while we partook in retail therapy…

our first stop is one of his favorite places in…the…WORLD!  it is a self-service dog wash and shop.  he does not like getting a bath there, but he LOVES the owner.  she is one of cody bear’s best friends.  (she owns the large poodle he fancies)

while there we bought this leave in conditioning spray that is supposed to make you shiny. (your dog shiny, rather) it was 16 bux, and i know it sounds like a fru fru purchase, but he has been SO STATICKY lately.  he snaps when you pet him and he gets really sensitive if you zap his ears or his shoulders.

we also bought a new type of kitty kibble.  spree likes the shwag cat chow, science diet.  but with the pet food scare, i’m trying hard to switch her to the holistic organic made in the u.s.a. stuff.

anyway, the owner has become a friend to both of us, so we were there for ever chatting.  as you see, once she stopped cuddling him, cody bear got bored and took a nap.

our next stop was more of a pet boutique really.  neither of us like it there.  most of her stuff is for people with tiny dogs that like to dress them up in couture dog clothes and put jewelry on them.  but, we went because they’re the only place in town that sells pet blinker batteries.  she gave them to us…so we bought some cheesy dog treats.

i don’t like going there because she has this chihuahua that barks at everyone, and anytime a person comes near her she trembles in fear.  the store owner says “she loves coming to work with mama.” but the dog is terrified.  i wish she could see how unhappy she makes her dog by taking her to work every day. oh well.

so, that, and three walks and three meals was pretty much his day.

rescue group hasn’t called yet.  its been four days…

again, cody bear has asked the spirits for some horoscopes for his dog friends….

taurus, soon you will encounter something that seems new, scary, or possibly bigger than you.  be brave.  trust yourself and you will be rewarded.  also, be aware of screen doors or sliding glass doors and save yourself the embarrassment.

regarding the possibility of cody bear’s baby sister….

i pretty much have called everyone i know today and yesterday.  got some voicemails, talked to some folks.  also…got some great feedback from blog friends.  i have to say, i’m weighing the post from blog friends pretty heavily, as we have heard eachother’s voices pretty loudly through font-on-blog these last few months.  with the exception of one person, everyone i actually spoke to or read words from supports the idea.  funny thing, the people who didn’t answer are the ones i expected would think it was a stupid idea to get another dog!

here were the big CONS:

money, time at work, cody bear’s “issues”, hard to find someone to watch pets when i leave town, small house, cat, i take it hard when the pets get sick,

ok, here are the pros:

before i counter the cons….

1. i’m not sure what i want to do with my life, where i want to live, of anything….but i do know i want a dog.

2. for the last two years i have used cody’s not liking dogs as an excuse, but he does like some dogs and he is so lonely.  nowadays, when he sees dogs, he wants to play.  his friend’s families are too busy for play dates.  he is SO LONELY.

3. i love dogs.  i’m a good dog mom.

ok, addressing the cons:

money: i am never going to be rolling in the dough.  so, shall i never get another pet?  that goes against who i am.  i’m not rich and i have pets.  it’s ok.  even with cody bear’s illness, he has NEVER missed out on medical care.

time at work:  i get to come home for lunch every day normally.  i have some vacation time to welcome a new puppy.

cody bear’s issues(being health and fear of dogs): he has never gone so long without barfing! we’ve found a great diet, and an exercise plan that works.  he actually misses his dog friends.

hard to find pet sitter: lets revisit the financial issue, shall we.  dog sitters are a crappy argument, since i never have enough money to actually go on vacation anyway!

small house: yes the house is small, but the yard is HUGE.  and, its not like dogs do an obstacle course while i’m away.  adults sit and wait till you get home….puppies chew up small houses just as well as big houses!

cat:  the cat loves dogs, wishes cody would play with her more, even.  plus, getting a puppy, he will grow up knowing he has to treat her gently and …. learn that she isn’t food.

taking it hard when pets get sick.  yes, i have no argument for this.  i still miss loki every day….

anyway, thanks everyone for your input!

i’ll keep you posted. after all, this rescue group may not approve me anyway….

so, i’m obsessed with border collies.  i have been for years.  i also love aussies, and since i met checkers on line….i may be addicted to corgis, too!

but, here’s a dog…

that has been in the class i have been helping with for the last five weeks.  he’s GORGEOUS!

anyway…i did something drastic tonight:  i filled out an online application for a border collie puppy.  i want one AND i think cody bear has been sort of lonely lately. besides….

he’s been taking himself too seriously lately.

we’ll see.  i’m not rolling in the dough.

so far today we have gone for one walk and cody had “really reliable recall” class.

i used to be his second favorite person in the world, second only to his trainer, whom he loves immeasurably.  after years of work and devotion, i believe i have finally ousted her.

also, note that she is carrying a box of tissue?  that right there is why she is one of MY favorite people in the world, as well.  you see, i am suffering from seasonal allergies.  isn’t she sweet!?

off to the shopping mall to kill my perfect weekend….by shopping for jeans.

recapping, i did some lame blogging from my blackberry today during jury duty, which i  was not selected for. and my boss let me take the rest of the day off to rest up and kill this cold virus. i should be back to my normal congestion tomorrow!

now, i want you to see some more of my living room.  note: i do not have a couch.  i have a day bed and two cushy chairs.  the day bed has a picture window that overlooks the street.  this is where cody spends much of his time, perhaps, all when i’m gone.

he hangs out there, while i work on the computer. not here…

the moral of the story, if you’re thinking about getting a pet, maybe you don’t need to worry about spending the money on a cushy pet bed….

clearly they will still be comfortable.

so, at lunch today, i decided to play around with the camera and a used tripod i picked up at an estate sale. i decided to slow the shutter speed down and wait for cody bear to trot through the frame.  you see, we got some good comments from the shot where he was spinning.  hmmm, maybe you will look fluffier when you’re blurry?

i was going for a “swishy bear” look, but ended up with one invisible paw.  which, of course, is very cool.
