cody bear’s friends

so this morning, again, cody bear had given up on me. he was so sure i was going to leave for work without feeding him.

resting in a patch of sunlight, with hardly enough strength to wag.  he was whithering away to nothing and was without hope.  “she won’t remember to put kibble in the molecuball.  she doesn’t even know i’m here.”

“what’s this?….she’s taking my pictures?….she knows i’m here and certainly she will feed me!”

“after all, if i die, ….who will she photograph obsessively?”

at last, breakfast arrived.  i sat his breakfast molecuball down on the floor, grabbed my gear and left for work.  poor hungry bear….

so we haven’t talked about cody bear’s gastroparesis in a while, have we?…

NO! because i think this is the longest he has ever gone without barfing! i’m so proud of my little guy. (if you’re lost, check out the gastroparesis posts by clicking on that word in the tag cloud to the left)

with such healthy food, switching the meds (reglan) from 15 to 30 minutes before eating, and the stress relief work the dog is working on, this is the longest he has gone without being sick! almost 5 months i think!!!

some notes:

it still sucks when people cuddle him and always feel the need to mention how skinny he is, as if i’m starving him or something. but i think i’m learning that they’re not accusing me of not feeding him, they’re just surprised because he is so fluffy and that when they pet him they can feel his ribs and back bone.

because the stomach struggles to digest, cody bear has been getting 3 or four small meals a day. he eats them very slowly….

feeding him with the molecuball insures that he will eat slowly and actually chew the bites of kibble. plus…he’s so cute when he does it!

also, he is pretty much allowed to eat as many treats as he wants. they just have to be made of really healthy ingredients and nothing full of preservatives like snausages and such. no chews or bones either.

and, the higher the fat, the better, as far as i’m concerned. fewer ingredients sit better in his stomach, too.

also, i try really hard to walk him before meals, not after. i don’t want the food in his belly making him cranky if we encounter a barking or scary dog.

i know the gastroparesis is still there, but it is nice to be controlling it.

oh, let’s face it….i can only be wordless for so long on wednesdays.

so, here is cody bear on one of our stops yesterday while we partook in retail therapy…

our first stop is one of his favorite places in…the…WORLD!  it is a self-service dog wash and shop.  he does not like getting a bath there, but he LOVES the owner.  she is one of cody bear’s best friends.  (she owns the large poodle he fancies)

while there we bought this leave in conditioning spray that is supposed to make you shiny. (your dog shiny, rather) it was 16 bux, and i know it sounds like a fru fru purchase, but he has been SO STATICKY lately.  he snaps when you pet him and he gets really sensitive if you zap his ears or his shoulders.

we also bought a new type of kitty kibble.  spree likes the shwag cat chow, science diet.  but with the pet food scare, i’m trying hard to switch her to the holistic organic made in the u.s.a. stuff.

anyway, the owner has become a friend to both of us, so we were there for ever chatting.  as you see, once she stopped cuddling him, cody bear got bored and took a nap.

our next stop was more of a pet boutique really.  neither of us like it there.  most of her stuff is for people with tiny dogs that like to dress them up in couture dog clothes and put jewelry on them.  but, we went because they’re the only place in town that sells pet blinker batteries.  she gave them to us…so we bought some cheesy dog treats.

i don’t like going there because she has this chihuahua that barks at everyone, and anytime a person comes near her she trembles in fear.  the store owner says “she loves coming to work with mama.” but the dog is terrified.  i wish she could see how unhappy she makes her dog by taking her to work every day. oh well.

so, that, and three walks and three meals was pretty much his day.

rescue group hasn’t called yet.  its been four days…

there she is….coco.  cody bear loved that dog.  when next they meet, will she welcome him with a wag?  or will she be turned off by his barking and spastic play style?

cody bear almost caused a car accident this morning. and …. may have been the catalyst for a tiny road rage incident….

so…we’re walking. he’s wagging, smiling, sniffing. i spent a great deal of time brushing him last night, so he looked extra soft and fluffy and shiny.

and this woman drives up to the stop sign and she can’t take her eyes off cody bear who was concentrating on some trace evidence of cats.  the woman is smiling and looking at him like “oh how PRECIOUS!” and slows down to see him, but turns right, coasting through the stop sign.  mesmerized by the cuteness, she doesn’t notice the jeep cherokee speeding down the road or my look of pre-accident terror.  pulls out in front of him.  instead of slowing down, he pulls up to her on the narrow residential street, slows down right next to her on the wrong side of the road and starts yelling and honking and being very unhappy.

meanwhile, cody bear continues to wag happily, none the wiser.  for me, its nice to know i’m not the most terrible driver in town, after all…

friday night.  cold medicine. rental movie.  canon 20d. dog.

here you see cody bear rocking the photo shoot under florescent lighting.  i don’t really know why there are so many florescent lights in my rental house.  i have my theories….

anyway, there’s a setting for light type, so we set it to florescent and it actually was passing fair.  how could it not be with such a cute model!!

his reward for posing?  outside cheering him on while he runs hell on paws through the back yard chasing his frankenstein toy.
