an update….not much to say, so i will take the boring details of my day and pretend they’re exciting.

we had a visitor stop by my house today, and while i was showing her my back yard, see spotted from about twenty feet away….a very rare night blooming plant growing through the branches of one of my run of the mill trees. how exciting. i shall have to keep a better watch on it.

i got a mother’s day card from my dog in the mail today. one from my cat a few days ago. neither of them work….so they should have partnered up and got a “from the both of us” card.

as you know i just took up photography. well, today, for the first time, i uploaded 2 to a professional photo processing company and am getting them actually printed. i think they’re suitable for framing!

yesterday dominique was sent packing on america’s next top model. fine. how did she even get on the show to begin with.

so, those are the random and boring updates. truthfully, i just wanted to put tonight’s picture of cody bear on line. i just brushed him, so he’s extra soft and fluffy.

oh! duh!  i almost forgot this really titillating detail:  i got my new copy of bark magazine today!

…time for conan o’brien. night night.

the previous mystery plant game was fun.  if you’re new to the site, see here and here.

this plant was given to me as partial payment for the website i am working on that i mentioned before.  they’re an organic farm and friends of mine.  i’ll do their web-site and they were going to pay me with vegetables.  well, THIS plant is one of my top five favorite plants and i have always wanted one!

what is the EXACT name of this mystery plant????

our past winner was livingisdetail. and i think she was content with her prize….

bees and beers and such

a couple weeks ago i mentioned i was becoming obsessed with getting the perfect bee shot.  after seeing what my friend a’s “macro” can do, i’ve resigned myself to honey bee mediocrity and will return to focusing my lens and my efforts on….dogs.

but, i did get some pretty good shots, just not as amazing as hers.

she took this one:

it looks like he’s wearing leg weights….but its pollen.  quads be damned.

here’s my shot:

funny thing, our pix got better AFTER we each had a couple pints of beer.  i wouldn’t recommend getting schnackered and then going out to harass some africanized honey bees, but i felt safe with her.  she know’s her bees.  in fact, she appears to be getting in the minds of the bees.  she is at ONE with the bees.  can even identify them by the buzz they make.

oh, the bees were buzzing, as were we….

such a great weekend, with the cardinal, the bees, the bobcats.  wish i didn’t have this cold, but other than that….life is good.

welcome to my living room.  “our living room!” says cody bear.   right, sorry!

obviously you see cody bear.  happy, as he usually is when on his doggie bed, which is a day bed in front of the picture window, facing the street.  dogs, cats, birds, joggers, cyclists; all passing by to amuse him.

lower right hand corner: actual doggie bed.  he only uses that to eat dog biscuits, or lays there in silent protest if i stay up to late.

foreground: books.   my favorite books on this shelf include:  birds of britain and europe(picked up in co. kerry when i finally couldn’t TAKE IT ANYMORE!  the birds there…they’re different!), essay on the principle of population by malthus (please read before procreating), stress in dogs (learn it….live it…take it seriously people), nevada barr’s hard truth, and…a mini wooden cigar box of foreign coins.  all loved ones are required to bring me coins from foreign lands when they travel.

also, that’s a 3 piece wooden pig puzzle from my childhood.

2 bikes: 1 trek, 1 dbs kombi LUX

far shelf:  1 xmas cactus, 1 crown of thorns. (they’re not allll religious plants…you can’t see the philendendron) a picture i took of o’connell street bridge in ‘97.  my trusty chicken lamp.  loki’s ashes in a box.

desk full of stationary, kitchen shelves with doggie biscuits and vegetarian cookbooks.

behind cody bear’s ear: a picture of his sister, loki.

and….the thick layer of dust covering the entire room that i don’t see until i look at photographs.  no wonder i’m sneezing!

moving on….

wordless wednesday - back yard

tonight, on . . . “confessions”

here’s me, sans my dog. that’s right, i don’t take him everywhere. (wish i could)

me-w-canon.jpg

secret is out: i wasn’t tracking wild butterflies when i got those pictures the other day. i was in the butterflyquest green house at the municipal gardens. they were all over. one even landed on my friend:

m-and-morph.jpg

so you see, i’m not a photo phenom after all. but i’m having fun, and i think i’m doing relatively well for picking up the hobby in february!

as long as i’m making confessions, here is another: my celebrity crush? gordon buchanen, the scottish nature cinematographer who filmed the leopards of yala. SMOKIN! i think its the accent….

and another: i dance around with cody bear when the radio is on. not like the kind of dog dancing you see on youtube. we just shake our groove thangs every now and then.

that’s all i got for now.

here cody bear demonstrates how i feel today.

yawn.jpg

its spring and pollen season is beginning.  i can already tell its going to be a bad year.  the only allergy med that works for me….benedryl.  even the non-drowsy makes me drowsy. no worries, i won’t be operating any heavy machinery.  ‘cept my car.  oh dear.

i’m so thankful cody bear and spree don’t have allergies.  i would hate for them to have itchy eyes and a snuffly nose.

his yawn is more out of boredom than empathy.
