so here was yesterday, (an explanation of why i’m still in my jammies and why my back is tired. not sore…tired)
up.
get to the art institute by 9 am to talk to students about dog and nature photography
go to botanical gardens to take some shots. see this bird with a stick….
which naturally reminds me of this….
pick up abacus to go to breakfast where he orders this….
that’s the “traditional” grilled trout and eggs breakfast meal. whose tradition IS this, exactly?
head to the cakery to hang out with mc cupcake where she was working on this….
home. two loads of laundry. take dogs to the park for a nice long walk.
fm picks me up and we go back to the bakery to pick up a sheet cake for the music studio grand opening.

drink a couple beers, then head home to feed the dogs and take them for a nice walk around the neighborhood. then head to italian restaurant.
next, cyberbowling at ten. i finish game 1 with 100. next…70…next 61.
i won’t be going pro.

but first….a few expletives: yesterday morning, a couple hours after explaining to a friend that my ankle was feeling better…i dropped a 28 pound pc tower on my foot! as some of you knowwww, i’m a delicate flower. (“delicate flower” = “clumsy person with zero pain tolerance”)
but that’s ok, the day moved along and then friends came over, some even brought their dogs. (hurray! say pickles and cody bear! wagwagwag)
i have a friend who owns a wedding cake bakery and she always shows up with the most delicious cakes:
here the cross section shows the filling: a dark chocolate genache layer with white chocolate mousse and then drizzled with espresso!
oh yeah baby! and note the paw print. that is her signature. she hides a paw print on each of her wedding cakes!
cody bear has always loved parties, but sometime around 11 he started getting queazy.
and here you see pickles moping because she couldn’t get ANY of the dogs to play with her. cody tried early in the night, but there just wasn’t enough room, so he decided to lay low.
moving on…
this morning pickles and i went to be helpers at the dog training center. there was a class of 7 dogs working on their stays and recalls. they were supposed to be able to stay with distractions. well, long story short…(and i’ll preface it by saying SHE’S FINE) a dog broke its stay and instead of going to it’s owner. he charged pickles. she got bit on the shoulder. it is spitty and tender, but not punctured. she had a hard morning at work! (and yes…i was flipping out!)
we were all very surprised because this is one of the best trained dogs in class, annnnd…..everyone loves pickles! two other dogs broke their stays and charged her, but just to say hello or play. as you can imagine…she’s exhausted!
sheesh, sorry about the long post. and this isn’t even half of what’s happened since i last posted 15 hours ago! but…i need to take the munchkins for a nap. i’m blowing off agility photography and probably the party i was going to tonight, as well. i need to safely tuck myself into my neighborhood for the day before my delicate flower self gets any more surprises.
i’ll be back after the nap to tell you about the blessing of the valentines pineapple and to enlist your help in a new tradition!

on sunday the phone rings. “what are you doing tonight?” asks a.h.
you know how you can sometimes hear when a person is smiling? well, a.h. was smiling, and not in an “i’m drunk so let’s call goodbear” way. more in a “goodbear is going to love us” kind of way.
it was about 7 ish, and i told her all of the very important jobs i had to do, “why?”
“cuz we want to bring over wine and chocolate cherry cake”
how spontaneous! how fun!
they had volunteered at a local winery for the harvest and were rewarded with a few bottles of wine…
including a very special one with no label and the cork not even popped all the way in. you see….it’s not released yet!
and then of course, we tucked the bees in for the night…
since AT LEAST august 18th on the same branch. must be these agapostemons know where the party is!!!
all i can say is….with friends like this…who needs to get up for work on time on a monday morning. sometime it is worth risking a wine and cake hangover just to have a good time. mellow and fun.

welcome to wilderness baking with dr. r. and buzzybeegirl.
tonight….chocolate cake with a mantis garnish! we’re about an hour outside of town in a national forest reputed for its abundant insect and bird life!
we’re baking in the middle of a torrential downpour of rain! this will definitely add to the flavor:
buzzy, sopping wet, has her eggs, her cake mix, her vegetable oil…
and dr. r. will line his dutch oven with aluminum foil, pour in the cake batter and place on the hot coals.
he will place hot coals above the oven, as well as sitting it on top of the fire. for best results, sheild the irritating, persistant rain from the coals by placing aluminum baking table over the fire.
while cake is baking, grab camera and begin shooting scads of pictures of native insect life.
the rain has stopped right before the cake is done!
so moist and chocolatey! even the praying mantis can’t get enough!
this is extreme baking every one!!!
now…back to tossing hoju’s ball into the mud….

as i mentioned in previous posts, a.h. specializes in the study of bees. (she has a great new blog at buzzybeegirl.wordpress.com, as well) so our other friend a. is a wedding cake decorator and she did a really special cake for the wedding yesterday!
cutest wedding cake EVER! a.h. and r. LOVED it. and it they all thought it was delicious, too!

i LOVE sunset magazine…..11 months of the year. LOVE it! but the november issue always angers me because it always have a lovely, golden, roasted turkey on the cover. and every year my poor mother listens to me rant about how the editors can’t find a new idea. thanksgiving. turkey. autumn. turkey. holidays. turkey. thursday my mom called from her town. the sunset had just arrived and, guess what? no turkey.
i know its silly, but, it really has been pissing me off. and every fall i say i’m done. i’m not looking at their damn magazine anymore. but there you see it: a spice cake, some cookies and some sort of orangey cheese cakey wonderful sweetiness. i flippin’ love sunset!
in dinner news:
was at the animal shelter till about 8:30, so dinner was super late, but super yummy: hummus, rice pilaf with a small bit of mushroom, spinach sauteed with fresh garlic and some sassy cumin, a glass if mirrassou merlot. num num.
in dog land:
mom was visiting for the day and went to see her grand dog kick fuzzy but at dog school today. he did a down-stay for a minute with me out of the room. i think she may have been impressed. i was. he squeaked a little, and when i came back, he looked freaked out. but he won the competition of the day…. cuz he’s a good bear!
Last night….Friday night….April and George took Mike Lebowski on their girls’ night out. We had to leave him in the car because they don’t “serve his kind in here.” By his kind….we, of course, mean monsters. So, we packed in some cajun food (and some drinks. George: Purple Haze Louisiana beer. April: Swamp waters) and our bartender/server was great! A super nice fellow.
We grabbed Mike, who greeted us with his signature “wha’s up bitchessssss?!!!” and took him to ….the cakerie.
First Mike partied with the “naked cakes”….
before entering the inner sanctum: the “walk in. ”
Here our loveable monster friend, Keyboard Money Mike, parties in the cash register.
Now, on to more serious matters: April’s new tattoo. FYI for a certain loser, Apie did NOT cry AND she is better off without you.
