honey bees….lots of ’em…
this was yesterday at lunch. only one of my 20 creosote bushes is blossoming already. scads of bees were working it over.
no dennis…those aren’t mini-tennis balls or a 3 foot bee. that is a creosote bud.
see that guy looking at me? he’s like, “you knowwww. me and my friends could kill you.” but i kept going. snippity snap.

Comment by Dennis the Vizsla February 28, 2009 @ 4:45 pmi just love the second photo of the bee flying. and see, you don’t need a macro…especially when the bee is 3 ft long. dennis, these may be the mutant x-ray bees. ha ha ha

Comment by forkboy March 1, 2009 @ 2:37 amI’m with Dennis on this, I don’t see a ruler either 🙂
Comment by daisydog March 1, 2009 @ 5:17 pmit is an italian bee (ligustica) known to be the less aggressive bee in the world.
Comment by scorpionedargento March 1, 2009 @ 5:46 pmit may be that type of bee, but since 99% of the honeybees in Southern AZ are Africanized/hybrids, I wouldn’t take my chances. The Carl-Hayden bee lab usually measures the wings to determine if they are Africanized or not.
