our regular breakfast place decided not to serve on sundays.  jerks.  so we started our day at a different place and i have to say….

their hash browns sucked.

moving on to the rest of the day cuz it gets better.

then one of my mates and i went to target and that was fun.

then to the mac store so i could get a new jogging case for my ipod. while i was there…they tried to pimp their macbooks on me.  no thanks.

so then we go to this running shoe store, right?  and my favorite model running shoe is totally on sale.  so i ask the guy for a seven and a half.  he says, “we better measure you.”  but what he meant was, “you’re stupid and you’re wrong so let’s measure you”.

so i stand on the foot scanner and i get very self conscious all of a sudden and i say, “i have flat feet.”  scan scan scan.  7.5 pops up on the screen and genius says, as if this is startling news to me, “you have naturally flat feet.”

then he tries to sell me an eight.

but i love my new 7.5s! so happy. then we went to shop for espresso machines at crate and barrel and william sonoma.  and then we went and had coffee drinks at this posh little coffee joint attached to a fancy market.  fancayyy.

next house cleaning.

then a 45 minute power nap. then i met some girl friends at the driving range.

then jogging with d.

NICE day, i have to say.

then what?

a nice blue moon, now bed time

“what’s with the tomato?” you ask?

it’s just funny. it has a nose.

tomatoes with noses are funny.

friday.

it ended with c, l and myself dining al fresco in my back yard while cody bear ran around and pickles trimmed the grass.

basilall pickles had the energy to do was snack on grass tonight. she had dog day care today and is wiped out.  (however…if i were to pick up the leash right now…she would suddenly be rejuvenated)

tonight i made a salad consisting of fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, spring mix, mini tomatoes, cucumber chunks and balsamic dressing.  i also made tortellinis with sauteed green onion and zucchini in a basil and garlic tomato sauce with fresh oregano.  and i got a great crusty bread, too.

onions

it was the first time c and l came over for dinner.  their table manners were very good and they are fun to chat with.  next time they come i might grill something.

it was a perfect night.

tomorrow i’m meeting friends for breakfast, going hiking then cooking for dancingbee, buzzy and buzzy’s dad!  how fun is that?  fun, very, very fun.

after i got home from volunteering, i took the pods out back to stretch their paws while i watered my thirsty plants.  i can’t believe it, but there is actually a baby tomato there, deep inside all the dense leaves!

oh…i hope the little thing makes it!

hey sweet pea…ya little cutie veg you…

as i mentioned, my friends are paying me in veggies to do their organic farm’s website.  i love it.  here is today’s snack…

they’re the most delicious snap peas in the whole entire world. they just have to be.  i can’t imagine finding sweeter, crisper peas.

they were all normal size peas, but this little cutie, seen here with a ibuprofen…

i also had a raw organic trail mix bar….which was disgusting!!!!

but oh, …the peas….

friends, veggies and beetles – trifecta!

warning:  this post has a beetle in it….with mandibles!

but give him a shot!  we’re talking about the weekend again.

basically, my friends have an amazing organic farm about an hour outside of town.  last year i went to one of their harvests and i had the best time.  yes, it was hard work, but the work felt good.  while you’re picking the AMAZING produce from the fields you have time to chat with all these other people that 1. are interested in local produce, organic farming, sustainability and the great outdoors, and  2. somehow seem to be like minded about dogs and the environment, and 3.  are just nice, fun people!

artichoke break:

last year i went by myself. i took my new and amazing friends, r and a!  and wouldn’t you know it, they were the belles of the ball!

as entomologists and biologists, everyone had questions for them…mostly about BEES! (which i love)  and they had fun, too.  in fact, one volunteer, prolly about 20 years older than he, decided that r was really the pick of the day, and…engagement to a be damned, …she was gonna make her move!  no harm, no harm.

its fun having a in the field because she looks for bugs with giant mandibles to scare me!

here’s the daily beetle!

there was lots of joking and talks in the field, followed by the amazing meal i mentioned earlier…but here’s the coolest part:

i’m reminded it’s never too late to make friends.  i’m so glad r and a and i have become such good friends!  and we have such a good time together.  what’s better than veggies, the outdoors and friends you love?  i guess the only thing i would have done was take cody bear, my super awesome dog.

it was just good…another good part of an awesome weekend…

weekend veggie love…

sunday’s food specifically.  we went to my friend’s farm and, as i mentioned in an earlier post, worked our bums off.  we were pullin’ up organic veg for 4.5 hours, then hopped into the trucks and went to the main house for the most delicious feast.  almost entirely made from herbs and veg from their farm and eggs from their chicks.  most dishes were vegan, too.

she made one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian fritatta…

they’re like omelets, only not gooey or greasy because they’re baked.

other dishes!  2 different kinds of vegan pasta salad that were so fresh and delicious!  one was the freshed basil pesta pasta salad, and the other was spinach bowtie pasta with really mild mushrooms!  this giant platter of the freshest root veg and radishy type things with an amazing dressing.  one veg i had never even heard of before and ….i’ve forgotten it. oh and the MOST delicious fresh pea pods ever!  and fresh endive salad and her famous cowboy cavier. (her best batch yet)

for desert, fresh baked cookies and this honey and citrus/berry fruit dish that….had too many things i was allergic to, but looked delicious.  i should have taken more pictures, but we were starving so i didn’t have the strength to hold the camera …

dum dums and asparagus to go….

here’s one of the funnier things we saw at work this week.  one of our clients (a hospital) returned this pc to us for service….

now, not everyone is great with computers, BUT, if you are medical staff at a hospital that may one day be treating me or someone i know….i really hope you know how to turn on a pc.  also….do you need this as a reminder? if someone shows you the button one time, will you need a note taped on to remind you?  ever again?

ok…well, we were cracking up about it! then…it was time to get ready for one of our coworkers 50th birthday party!  l and i made this…

gosh, i sure hope you can tell it is an e!  the picture turned out cool because we had the party on the cyc(cyclorama) in the photography studio.  i love the cyc! i wish all the walls in my house had curved bottoms!

then the party, followed by leftovers.  we had soo many leftovers, (the caterer was just so so) but, not many containers.  here is my friend m with the mug-o-asparagus i had to take home.

the party was great and the birthday guy loved it.  there was some jerkiness, but i’ll talk about that tomorrow….once i’ve cooled off a bit! also, the guy in charge of the beverages only brought one case of beer for fifty people. DUH!

i did end up carting the cup of veg home i the honda’s cup holder.  i was snacking on the asparagus en route. it was good.  traveled well.
