somebody was very excited to play outside!

he just had to play with henrietta, that damn chicken in the bikini.

poor chicken. she can’t even cluck anymore!

now that’s fun…

crazy dog, i love you!

i have a good action shot that i will post on dog daily later today, but we’re going to watch a stupid movie now…

flu and flew(yes…past tense of fly, so be warned)

i was down for the count today. woke up with some flu thing. i was feeling better this afternoon, but that was short lived. and i’m so thirsty!

but, that didn’t stop the blogging muse from leading me to a topic. some of you may not like this one:

i went to drop off the pictures to r and a from their “shoot” with the dogs. we got to chatting. 2 topics came up: 1. they’re getting married! wonderful news! 2. bees.

and bees let to a bringing out her bug trays!

not too bad. who doesn’t love a butterfly, right? and don’t most people learn to love moths eventually, as well?

but then…

for the love of all that’s holy!

that big ass beetle, the one who looks like a death machine from a milla jovovich movie? that’s the palo verde beetle. some of you may remember the story of my cat befriending the one who was trying to assassinate me last summer….only that one was twice the size of this dead guy.

moving on…

yes, that is a hissing cockroach.

let’s cleanse our visual pallet with a butterfly…

and here’s hoju, howling…

you can catch more of him on my photoblog, dogdailyphoto.wordpress.com.

so, i didn’t stay long. and now i’m blogging because i can’t sleep since i don’t feel well. not to complain. just mentioning why i’m up is all…..

moth…cat…camera…

so a moth got in some how.  penetrated our critter free fortress.  this vexes the cat, who decides the ironing board is the best vantage point to track the interloper and launch an attack.

i’ll skip the many picks where she scopes the moth, gets angry with me for ruining her attack, or embarrasses herself with some fake lioness posing.

ultimately…she doesn’t get tired of moth scoping, but rather, she feigns exhaustion to get me to leave.

fine kitty. but i will wake up in the morning and curse you for hairing the ironing board.  and the moth will still be flitting around, taunting you and eating my clothes.  sleep well.

the great outdoors, as seen by cody bear and checkers!

dogs are very smart, especially corgis and mandarin collies.  as you will soon see, checkers and cody bear  have great problem solving abilities and natural survival skills.  to “ruff” it, so to speak…

after recovering from their trip to la casa blanca, they decided it was time to expand their life experience, challenge their mettle, conquer the great outdoors.  i was honored to be invited along, …until i realized ….they were only using me to put the tent up!….

…. and to open their canned goods and build a fire.

here’s what they already knew about camping:

the outdoors is pretty and wildly dangerous, there are bears, no electricity, lots of trees, trail mix is often involved, and …. you are required to eat warm, mushy marshmallows.

here’s what they learned:

melty marshmallows stick to paws and face fur. when you REALLY REALLY have to go to the bathroom in a hurry and you don’t have thumbs….it is darn near impossible to unzip the tent flap.  get claws trimmed before camping, so as not to pop air mattress.  when packing for camping trip, don’t choose the squeaky dog toy over the compass or snow shoes.

they truly discovered why people find camping so amazing.  there are soooo many trees to pee on, soooo many squirrels to chase.  there are no garbage men around and you get to leave the stress of the big city behind.

checkers did admit, however, that it was tough being away from his blog for so long.

ultimately, they sent me packing.   checkers isn’t used to my snoring, so i got kicked out of the tent and was forced to hike through the wilderness the entire lonely 25 feet back to my bedroom.

well, that’s it for the latest “on the road with cody bear and checkers.” i sure hope they invite me along again.  everything is more enjoyable with a dog, especially these two!

well, i better get back to picking the burrs out of cody bear’s furry gaucho pants…

random thoughts from my living room

an update….not much to say, so i will take the boring details of my day and pretend they’re exciting.

we had a visitor stop by my house today, and while i was showing her my back yard, see spotted from about twenty feet away….a very rare night blooming plant growing through the branches of one of my run of the mill trees. how exciting. i shall have to keep a better watch on it.

i got a mother’s day card from my dog in the mail today. one from my cat a few days ago. neither of them work….so they should have partnered up and got a “from the both of us” card.

as you know i just took up photography. well, today, for the first time, i uploaded 2 to a professional photo processing company and am getting them actually printed. i think they’re suitable for framing!

yesterday dominique was sent packing on america’s next top model. fine. how did she even get on the show to begin with.

so, those are the random and boring updates. truthfully, i just wanted to put tonight’s picture of cody bear on line. i just brushed him, so he’s extra soft and fluffy.

oh! duh!  i almost forgot this really titillating detail:  i got my new copy of bark magazine today!

…time for conan o’brien. night night.

mad lib - bringing home a new puppy

this mad lib is dedicated to fergus, lavenderbay and e.g.’s new puppy

BRINGING HOME A NEW PUPPY - a mad lib. disclaimer: please don’t actually do this!

Puppy training during the first week is dusty and sweet. It is obvious that you need certain physical wags such as a ham sandwich or papason, molar and raccoons, puppy chow, collar, woodpecker, toys, etc. Insistently as huge, all family cats must decide and agree on coffee pot, responsibility and a whisker.

The first few fish are extremely important. Enthusiasm and swiss cheese are furry. Everyone wants to lick the puppy, play with the puppy and humiliate the puppy. Sleepy rules are gaily broken. Everyone agreed that puppy will sleep in her dumpster but as soon as she’s home, someone melts and insists that puppy will sleep in The Queen E II! Everyone previously agreed not to let puppy chew up on them, but in the excitement, no one even notices that puppy is jumping gently. No one leaps the first night. Puppy wins and gets to pant in bed. The next map we find puppy has eliminated all over the hummingbird. So the following night puppy is banned to her toilet and bushwhacks all night. No one barfs tonight either.

Grouchiness naps in; enthusiasm is playful. No one wants to get up at the pre-agreed upon fatty morning feeding time. How are we going to jump puppy? How are we going to sleep with her constant wagging.

Your gooey puppy has just been taken away from her hairball and littermates. She is content and smelly. What she needs now are bells and tuna. Set up a small computer to be her very own special rock for the next couple of months. Opine the entire floor and put her food/water bowls and spoon in one box. Exsanguinate her toys everywhere.

Play with her sloppily and slowly. Don’t flood her with shoes and rubber dinosaurs. If she looks like she wants to gesticulate, leave her alone. Puppies need translucent sleep.

thus ends the mad lib….

hi everyone! i realize some of my entries have been sad or heavy lately, so i wanted to turn things around and talk about some cheery stuff.

starting today, blogs will be more positive, however, i will update you on topics that may be sad from time to time.

starting the cheeriness now:

that is probably the last youtube video i post in a while. this is good news because there is a glitch the disables the video from time to time. that’s frustrating for me, and you, cody bear’s friends.

on the happy train, i have learned that blog friend lavenderbay is getting fergus, a cute new baby corgi puppy. he will make a great play mate for her dog, cai.

we will resume our “cody bear asks” series, but with less frequency. and, if checkers is up for it, there are more road trips planned akin to roswell and the whitehouse trip! we may even do some more cnn headline jumbles! and more more MORE photography!

also, it is time to inform you all that i do NOT hate my coworker anymore. he is not that irritating and he has been trying hard. also, he has stopped treating me like the house wench.

mad lib thursdays will continue! wordless wednesdays will also continue here at the blog, however, i can only remain wordless for an hour or two before i start….using words.

more contests and prizes like this one can be expected!

thank you all for sticking with the blog, even during the emotional posts about dogs not feeling well. i have loved visiting your blogs, and i continue to love doing my dog daily photo blog.

so, i’m going to work for a few hours, then will be back with some mad lib results. in the meantime, i wish you all well, and challenge you to do something embarrassing, silly or blogworthy today.

if you’ve ever loved a dog….

oh my gosh! i went to my friends after work and shot pictures of mindy and her family for hours!  i have hundreds of pictures of them!

r & a are amazing. they love their dogs so much.  and you can see how much they love each other in their pictures, too.

please continue to keep them all in your thoughts.  it is a really hard time for them right now, you see, the doctors determined that the ongoing treatment was what was keeping mindy alive.  they sent her home to be with her family for a couple days, but they will have to take her back when she starts failing.  oh god that is so hard to type.

it is better she spend time with her family now, so r & a cleared their schedules and are staying home with their family for the week.

it took hours to go through all the photos.  late into the night.  cody bear finally gave up on me, until i turned around in my chair to look at him…

remember his not-so-super super power?  the one where he senses someone is looking at him and exposes his belly for rubbing?  his senses are becoming even more heightened now!
