cody bear's friends

the tiny muggings must stop…

today i learned that the dutch word for mosquito….is mug.

i spend every morning, from 5:30 to 7-ish, in the back yard with the dogs.  the dogs run, fetch is played, weeds are pulled, plants are watered, cats are barked at.  typical morning stuff.  and it would all be splendid, even the waking early stuff, if it weren’t for those damn mugs!

the muggings HAVE TO STOP!  they’re eating me.  they hover around little pickles looking for a landing strip.  cody bear doesn’t hold still long enough for them to get comfortable.  they ride into the house on my clothes and are probably home snacking on my pets as we type.  (yes, the dogs are on heartguard)

in other news.

i’m running out of dogs to photograph. as some of you know, i have a dog daily photo blog.  each day i put a different dog up there.  well, i need to get out and about and meet some new dogs….just in case you guys are getting sick of cody bear and pickles.  here are two pups from pickles’ socialization class.

now, i’ll be housesitting for the next few days, so don’t know how frequently i can blog.  we’ll see.  taking cody bear and pickles to stay with hazel.

take care every body!

who did this?  pickles, a nihilist.  watch out for her…

and please . .. don’t give her a white russian…

here’s the pupdate:

pickles adores cody bear.  but, as i had mentioned, sometimes cody bear likes pickles, sometimes not so much.  well, yesterday was a likes day.

it seems he has some sort of pickles acceptance schedule.  in the morning, he can’t be bothered.  he has to patrol, he has to run, he has to eat breakfast.

at lunch…

he just wants to cuddle his mama before she goes back to work.  usually he lures her away from the cuddle spot so he can be closest, but once he is comfy, he will let pickles join in the cuddling, too.

after work, there is more running, as well as sniffing, so she is on her own, as far as he is concerned.  on a rare occasion, if she tries hard enough, she can break him down and get him to play with him after i get home from work.

then, around 9:30 at night they’re best pals.  they use every inch of the living room floor tussling.  then they get pooped out and have to rest.

this is a picture from last night during a short break from their play session…

some days he looks at me like, “how COULD you bring this she-pup home?” other days, like last night, he looks like he’s saying, “thanks for the puppy, mom.  she’s fun.”

so let’s review.  the dogs are getting along o.k. most of the time and great some of the time.  pickles is adorable.  so is cody bear. and he is being a good big brother.

looking at prickly things is soothing, huh?

today i am posting a soothing picture, because the day was….far from soothing.  but no worries, we’re ok.  let’s review….

after the soothing picture:

after a weekend of rest, pain killers and packs of ice, i woke up with considerable less back pain.  went to work aware that i shouldn’t over do it, so i asked my coworker to carry some heavy boxes for me.  he did. that was nice.  but then things went kind of kerfluey.

’twas the first day of our boss’s vacation, and we were swamped. the one tech couldn’t handle it so well, and only got about 1/4 of the emergencies worked out.  meanwhile, back at the office, i was working on a new demo, but the boss got nervous:  i have a degree in literature, not computers, and my coworker hasn’t had enough experience that my boss felt confident at all letting him touch it for the  final testing either.  by four o’clock monday…today…the boss was deciding he had to leave san diego and fly  home.  our contracts are too important and he can’t just let it go up there without messing around with it.  i totally understand, but it was stressful: he and i working on it together over the phone.

by this time, my back was already starting to hurt, especially after running errands for a couple hours.

it wasn’t a bad day….it wasn’t.  but we were very stressed.  and we are so behind that we start tomorrow already stressed.  pressure.  and see, my job is a low pressure job.  so there, i vented.  i’m leaving now…to pick my boss up at the airport.  he will be really stressed, but i’m NOT going to soak it in.  i’m not.

back later.

oh, and….isn’t that a pretty cactus?  it’s a prickly pear.  one of many varieties.
